Location decision issued for Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) Airport
The long-anticipated location decision for the Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) airport has been officially issued by the Masovian Voivode, Head of the Central Polish region. This milestone marks a crucial step toward securing building approvals for CPK, effectively initiating the investment process and advancing Poland's most ambitious infrastructure project to its next phase.
Located strategically between Poland’s capital, Warsaw, and the city of Łódź, CPK is designed to be a cutting-edge transportation hub integrating air, rail, and road connections. The location decision encompasses three critical components: airport infrastructure, including a terminal, runways, taxiways, and facilities for border control, customs, and firefighting services; a railway system, featuring a hub with connections in three directions and the necessary infrastructure; and a road network comprising newly designed layouts in the airport’s immediate vicinity.
We now have the location decision for building of the most modern airport in Europe. This is a critical step in the CPK project, and we are ready to move forward with construction
We have worked hard with numerous specialists on this project. We are now moving into the execution phase. Over 131 billion PLN has been allocated to prepare the best infrastructure in Poland. This demonstrates immense determination in pursuing the completion of this investment,
As part of the CPK Programme, the new central airport will initially serve 34 million passengers annually, with scalable expansion planned based on market growth. Additionally, the project includes a railway and road component, integrating high-speed rail (HSR) lines within Poland. This multimodal approach aims to enhance connectivity, providing seamless links between the airport, major cities, and regional transport networks, ensuring the hub becomes a central pillar of both air and land transportation in the region.
The designated area for the airport and part of the railway hub spans an impressive 2,585 hectares, nearly half of which has been purchased by the CPK company. A significant milestone in the project has been the success of the Voluntary Acquisition Programme, an unprecedented initiative in Poland that ensures property acquisition is conducted respectfully and cooperatively. More than 90% of local property owners with residential buildings in the designated area have already agreed to the programme.
We wanted every family in the future investment area to receive an attractive offer for their property through the Voluntary Property Acquisition Programme (PDN). Nearly 90% of built-up properties have joined the programme, proving that large-scale public projects can be executed in Poland with respect for individuals and social sensitivity,
The location decision ensures that the project is on schedule and enables CPK to soon start submitting building permit applications, with preparations already in full swing.
With today’s location decision, CPK moves closer to its goal of becoming one of Europe’s most modern and strategically significant transport hubs, a cornerstone for Poland’s economic growth and connectivity in Central Europe. The construction of the CPK airport represents a bold step in positioning Poland as a central aviation hub for Europe. By combining Polish expertise with innovative infrastructure design, the project will enhance connectivity, support the growth of Poland’s aviation industry, and ensure the country plays a leading role in the region’s economic development.
