CPK’s Discussions with Eurocontrol on Air Traffic Management

Representatives from the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) recently visited the headquarters of CPK. The delegation included Philip Hughes, Munish Khurana, Steven Moore, Edgar Reuber, and Krzysztof Banaszek.

This meeting provided an excellent opportunity to present the latest air traffic forecast results (IATA Forecast 2024-2060) regarding the long-term growth of traffic following the opening of the CPK airport in 2032.

During the meeting, the Central Communication Port (CPK) team responsible for the airport programme outlined the current progress on the design of the passenger terminal, airside and landside infrastructure, as well as supporting facilities such as emergency and fire services buildings, the air traffic control tower, the Airport Operations Control Centre, and maintenance bases.

CPK representatives also presented the latest updates on preparatory works within the area covered by the location decision (CPK Location Decision). These works include major construction efforts for airport infrastructure, the road network around the airport, power networks, and railway connections (CPK Project Status).

CPK Airport will be a new aviation hub at the heart of our region and a crucial point in Europe’s and the world’s air transport network. CPK is working closely with the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency to properly design and prepare for the operational launch of the new airport. The meeting with Eurocontrol representatives will contribute to the smooth integration of CPK Airport into the Single European Sky in 2032. The cooperation initiated will also enable the implementation of modern solutions to manage airport capacity both in the short and long term. It will ensure the highest level of safety and communication with Eurocontrol’s operations centre

said CPK President, Dr Filip Czernicki.

Eurocontrol representatives expressed their commitment to supporting the implementation of modern air traffic control and management systems, particularly A-SMGCS (Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System). The goal is to ensure efficient and environmentally friendly air operations at CPK Airport.

As part of data analysis and development, CPK has been invited to participate in air traffic simulation workshops organised by Eurocontrol EIH in Brétigny, near Paris. During the meeting, discussions also covered the preparation status of Eurocontrol and the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PAŻP) for conducting airspace simulations that take CPK into account.
