CPK presents new development strategy for the area surrounding the CPK Airport

Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) has unveiled its draft Development Strategy for the area surrounding the CPK Airport, a key planning document that outlines the vision for the social, economic, and spatial transformation of the 1,080 km² area around the future transport hub – home to more than 400,000 residents. The strategy is being developed in close cooperation between CPK, the Ministry of Infrastructure, and the local governments of the municipalities and counties neighbouring the planned CPK Airport. Public consultations are scheduled for May, and the Polish Council of Ministers may adopt the strategy in the second half of this year.

Mandated by the Act on Centralny Port Komunikacyjny, the strategy aims to implement a carefully designed development plan, created jointly with local authorities. The objective is to ensure that the communities in the surrounding region fully benefit from the opportunities brought by the construction of the CPK Airport, the railway interchange, and associated investments.

During a recent meeting hosted by the Ministry of Infrastructure with representatives from local government, CPK presented the draft of the strategy, marking the beginning of the next phase of dialogue focused on refining the document.

We are responsible not only for delivering one of the largest infrastructure projects in Poland, but also for the area in which it is being built. The strategy reflects the complex processes at play, requiring both a deep understanding of the local context and a long-term commitment to the needs of residents,

said Maciej Lasek, Government Plenipotentiary for CPK.

Development Strategy for the area surrounding the CPK Airport until 2044 was added to the legislative and programme agenda of the Council of Ministers in January this year. It entered the inter-ministerial consultation phase at the end of March and is currently under review by local authorities and government agencies. Public consultations will commence in May, with formal adoption by the Council of Ministers anticipated in the second half of 2025.

Three milestones will guide the strategy’s implementation: the start of CPK construction, the airport’s launch, and the first decade following the strategy’s adoption. A separate implementation document will define the scope and timing of specific actions after the strategy receives final approval.

Our support is vital to help local communities navigate the dynamic changes expected both during the construction of the airport and after it opens. Local authorities must be prepared for developments such as the rapid arrival of new residents and workers, or the emergence of entirely new industries in the region,

said Dr Filip Czernicki, CEO of CPK

The strategy identifies a range of priority initiatives for the development of the CPK surrounding area. These include investments in education, public safety, and healthcare, as well as improvements to local transport infrastructure. The document also highlights support for entrepreneurship, environmental protection, and the preservation of the region’s cultural heritage.

The area covered by the strategy includes 18 municipalities in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship: Baranów, Błonie, Brwinów, Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Jaktorów, Michałowice, Milanówek, Nowa Sucha, Ożarów Mazowiecki, Piastów, Podkowa Leśna, Pruszków, Radziejowice, Sochaczew (gmina and town), Teresin, Wiskitki, and Żyrardów. These municipalities fall within five counties: Grodzisk, Pruszków, Sochaczew, Warsaw West, and Żyrardów.
