CPK Airport moving forward: three firms to design support facilities
The tender for the design of several new support facilities at Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) Airport - covering administration, maintenance, meteorological services, and environmental monitoring - has been awarded. A consortium consisting of AKE Studio, APA Czech Duliński Wróbel Agencja Projektowa "Architektura", and ATP Kraków will carry out the work under a contract valued at nearly PLN 4.9 million (net).
The project includes the development of a central administration building for airport maintenance, a base for infrastructure support services, and a facility for meteorological operations and environmental risk control. Site planning and supporting infrastructure will also be part of the design brief.

The winning consortium will deliver a multidisciplinary design that incorporates architectural, structural, sanitary, electrical, and telecommunication solutions. As part of the agreement, the team will also prepare the necessary construction documentation, obtain a building permit, and may optionally provide detailed execution designs, tender materials, and author supervision.
The administration building will serve as a workplace for the airport operator’s personnel, who are responsible for the day-to-day operation and upkeep of the airport. There will also be space available for potential external tenants.
The infrastructure support base will provide the necessary facilities for teams maintaining the airport’s buildings and engineering systems, including navigation equipment, power and electrical systems, water supply and sewage networks, as well as HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems.
The meteorology and environmental services building will host teams tasked with gathering data on environmental risks and wildlife activity across the airport grounds. Their responsibilities will include monitoring wildlife collisions with aircraft and implementing deterrent measures such as falconry, canine patrols, acoustic devices, and laser systems.
The meteorological service team will conduct weather observations, forecasts, and climatological reporting in line with ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) guidelines. Their work will support flight safety and airport operations.
This contract is part of one of two framework agreements titled “Preparation of Design Documentation for Airport Support Facilities.” It follows the completion of concept designs for the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Service buildings. Work is ongoing on designs for additional support facilities, including the air traffic control tower and the operations control centre. A separate tender is underway for the airport police station.
