By the end of the year, tendering procedures for railway feasibility studies for 560 km of new lines

'By the end of the year, the Solidarity Transport Hub company plans to launch tendering procedures for the feasibility study for 560 km of 1800 km of the planned new STH railway lines,' reports the Polish Press Agency (PAP). An information notice on this matter was published in the Official Journal of the EU.

As reported by the Polish Press Agency (PAP), the first feasibility study (STEŚ) procedures are already in place for over half-thousand kilometres of high-speed railway lines. Their launch is planned in parallel with the opening of a new airport. It was added that an information notice on this matter was published in the Official Journal of the EU.

In total, it is more than 560 km of 1800 km of the planned new STH railway lines. We plan to announce all feasibility study procedures by the end of the year.

Tenders are to be announced in November and December. As reported by the Polish Press Agency (PAP), the specific dates depend on obtaining corporate approvals by the Company as part of the ownership supervision by the Ministry of State Assets.

According to plans, for 560 km of new railway lines, tenders are to cover the following sections:

  • Warszawa Zachodnia (Warsaw West) – STH – Łódź (without the section in the area of the STH node);
  • Łódź – Wrocław; Żarów-Świdnica – Wałbrzych – border with the Czech Republic;
  • Chybie – Jastrzębie Zdrój – Godów – border with the Czech Republic; Łętownia – Rzeszów;
  • Ostrołęka – Łomża; Trawniki – Krasnystaw – Zamość,

as well as the STH railway node (in the area of the Solidarity Airport).

First of all, we intend to announce the study procedure for the planned section of high-speed lines from Warsaw to Łódź, which is crucial for connecting the future airport to the railway system of the Republic of Poland. I assume that there will be further tenders for the following sections: between Łódź and Wrocław and between Łętownia in Podkarpacie and Rzeszów.

The expected time limit for the performance of the feasibility study for these sections is 10 to 12 months from the conclusion of the agreement. Railway investments which were selected by STH for the inventory and study, are planned for implementation before the end of 2027.

‘The list of sections to be covered by the feasibility study coincides with those for which the STH has signed subsequent agreements regarding the nature inventories since the end of August this year.In order to save time, both the inventories and the feasibility study will be carried out simultaneously,’ reports the Polish Press Agency (PAP).

The STH railway investments comprise almost 1,800 km of new lines to be constructed by the end of 2034. The STH Railway Programme consists of 12 railway routes, including 10 of the so-called spokes running from various regions of Poland to Warsaw and the STH.

The feasibility study is an important element of planning works which precede the design stage. Our objective is to start the first construction works before the end of 2023.
