CPK announces tender for the construction of a railway siding

A new railway siding will be built northwest of the CPK Airport by the third quarter of 2029 to handle fuel deliveries to the port. In its first phase, it will serve as a transshipment point for materials needed to construct the airport, the CPK railway hub, and high-speed Line 85 between Warsaw and Łódź. Marking a keystone in the project's logistics network, CPK has launched a tender for its design and construction, with bids due by 8 August.

The approximately 5-kilometre-long siding will be built as part of the project titled “Construction of the Central Communication Port along with the necessary infrastructure and facilities – construction of a railway siding from Railway Line No. 3 to the Central Communication Port”, and will provide fuel deliveries to the airport. The facility will be located at the north-western edge of the CPK railway hub and, via a single track, will connect the existing PKP PLK infrastructure – Railway Line No. 3 (Warszawa Zachodnia – Kunowice) – with the future CPK freight terminal.

In the first phase, due to its location, the siding will serve for the transport and unloading of materials needed for the construction of the airport, the CPK hub, and Railway Line 85 (including aggregates, steel, and hydraulic binders). After the airport has been completed, it will function as a fuel siding – until the construction of Railway Line No. 5, the CMK North line, which will link the CPK airport with the Tri-City area (Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot), along the same corridor.

Given the alignment of the siding with the future CMK North line (the siding will be the outermost western track of the CPK – Płock – Włocławek section), the planned infrastructure will be adapted to the target parameters of the line in terms of railway embankments, bridges, and engineering structures.

The tender, launched in the “Design and Build” formula, includes:

  • preparation of the design documentation, including the construction design, and obtaining all necessary agreements and decisions allowing the submission of a construction permit application;

  • execution of construction works and obtaining permission for use of the line segment from the junction area with Railway Line No. 3 to the future CPK freight terminal.

This is the first task enabling the creation of a fully functional CPK railway siding. In the subsequent stages, further works will be carried out: PKP PLK will connect the siding to Railway Line No. 3, and the CPK freight terminal will be built under a separate tender procedure.

According to the plans, the selected contractor will have 36 months from the date of contract signing to complete the task.
